Megan Zwart is Associate Professor of Philosophy and Chair of the Philosophy Department at Saint Mary’s College (Notre Dame, IN), where she has been a member of the department since 2008. Megan received her bachelor’s degree from Calvin College (Grand Rapids, MI) and her PhD from the University of Notre Dame. She teaches classes in the history of philosophy, ethics, and applied ethics. Megan’s research argues that philosophy should be accessible to all, and widely practiced in its most ancient form: as a transformative way of life in which intellectual and practical exercises help one pursue consistency between her beliefs and her actions. In the classroom, Megan models this approach to philosophy in experiential learning classes, including Medical Ethics, Social Justice (a class on the ethics of food production and distribution), and Dialogue and Civil Discourse (a course that equips students to engage with others across ideological difference). In her free time, Megan loves to cook, bake vegan treats, and garden. She also enjoys traveling with her husband, Jeff, and their two children, Amelia (14) and James (11).
